Black movie producers are not in high demand in Hollywood. There is actually only a handful of Black producers in the film industry. Despite the low amount of Black producers in the industry it is necessary for Blacks folks to secure the producer's hat whenever possible. Producers are typically in charge of engaging in decision-making functions, script revisions and casting just to name a few duties.
Having a Black person in this role can be pivotal in changing who gets to be apart of a movie and how they get to be represented.
A lot of popular big box office, predominantly Black films have been produced by notable Black people. A few producers that are responsible for putting on for the culture are as follows:
Ice Cube: Are We There Yet? PLayer's Club, Friday, First Sunday, Barbershop 2, Beauty Shop and ect.
Will Packer: Think Like A Man, Stomp The Yard, This Christmas and ect.
Debra Martin Chase: Just Wright, Sparkle and non black films such as the Princess Diaries, The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants and ect.
Reuben Cannon: Madea Goes To Jail, Woman Thou Art Loosed, Why Did I Get Married?, Love Don't Cost A Thing, Madea's Big Happy Family and ect.
The Wayans Bros: Little Man, White Chicks, Scary Movie 2, Eddie Murphy Raw, Don't Be A Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood and ect.
James Lassiter & Will Smith: The Karate Kid, I Am Legend, I Robot, Hitch, Ali, Seven Pounds, The Secret Life of Bees and ect.
