In the upcoming year, Sons Of Shaft will make its debut in June 2019. The movie will have Richard Roundtree (original John Shaft), Samuel L. Jackson (nephew of John Shaft) and Jessie T. Usher (son of Jackson's character) band together to uphold justice.
The Shaft character has been around for generations in the black community. The original Shaft film came out in 1971 featuring Richard Roundtree as the lead, cool ass private detective John Shaft. In 2000, director John Singleton made Samuel L. Jackson his lead man to play John Shaft, nephew of the original Shaft, in his reboot of the Shaft films. Adding a young guy, Jessie T. Usher to the Shaft legacy bridges 3 generations of black social culture, which makes this film something to be enjoyed by grand dads, grand mommas, dads, moms, uncles, aunties and millennials.
According to Movieweb.com the synopsis is as follows: Jessie T. Usher, John Shaft II, joins his father and great uncle on a mission. "He lacks the confidence and swagger of his namesakes, but he is brought into a new case for his technology expertise and learns to become smooth by association. This latest installment promises to be a straight up action flick, with some heavy drama sprinkled throughout, keeping it in line with the previous installments."
There is no trailer available at this time. Shooting on the film began in February.
