On July 13, 2015 Sandra Bland, a 28 year old Black woman was found hanging in her cell after being arrested during a traffic stop just 3 days prior. Her story was shared throughout the country. On Monday, Dec 3rd the details that were left out of her story will be revealed in HBO's documentary Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland. The documentary is scheduled to air December 3rd at 10:00 pm.
The documentary will follow Bland's family and their legal team during the first couple of weeks after Sandra Bland's death. There will be interviews of Bland's mother, sisters, their family attorney, Sheriff Glenn Smith, the head of Waller County PD; Elton Mathis, Hampstead Texas DA, Waller County minister, the county judge and many more interviewees.
The filmmakers Kate Davis and David Heilbroner followed the Bland story for two years and have collected essential documents, they have shot interviews with people that are close to the case and they have incorporated footage from the jail, Bland was kept in. The documentary reminds us to never forget to say her name.
