The season of Black creation keeps winning!
Night School, starring Kevin Hart & Tiffany Haddish and produced by Will Packer, has been deemed the largest opening comedy this year with a $28 million dollar ticket sales. This is Tiffany Haddish's biggest win since her breakout role in Girls Trip, which was also the top selling comedy film in 2017.
This surprised critics, who gave the film less than glorious reviews, but fell lovingly on audiences. It beat out what was thought to be the booming film, Smallfoot, by $3 million, and profited from it's original budget.
It's an interesting conversation, as it seems Black films are expected to fail against white-led A-list star productions, even from the studios they come from. The myth has been proven debunked time and time again that Black-led films can out-sell major Hollywood productions, thanks to Girls Trip, Black Panther, and now, Night School, and we hope Hollywood doesn't keep.... forgetting.
