Miss Cicely Tyson Has Become The First Black Actress To Receive An Honorary Oscar

Cicely Tyson is just a Icon Living!

Essence.com reports that the 93 year old has been the one and only, Black actress to recieve a honorary Oscar from the Academy.

Cicely has spent more than 65 years in the business. She was nominated for an Academy Award back in 1973 for her role as Rebecca Morgan in Sounder.

Important folk like Ava Duvernay, Quincy Jones and Tyler Perry were present, to honor the Queen with her Oscar. DuVernay called Tyson “the seed for so many of us, the rose that we adore.”

Quincy Jones shared his thoughts about Cicely, he says,

“Her work, grace, dignity, class, humility and profound professionalism firmly placed her on the pedestal of Hollywood royalty, and now, at long last, I could not be more honored to say that tonight, Cicely Tyson receives her more than well-deserved Oscar,”

The Queen gave an acceptance speech during which she said, “I don’t know that I would cherish a better gift,” Tyson said. “This is the culmination of all those years of haves and have not.”

This Oscar was given to her a couple of weeks before her 94th birthday. What a time to be alive.
