Issa Rae & Laura Dern Team Up for HBO Limited Series Based On Real-Life Cabbage Patch

According to Shadow and Act Issa Rae is joining Laura Dern for a HBO limited series called The Dolls. The series will be produced by Dern's Jaywalker Pictures and is co-written by Issa Rae and some writers for Insecure, Laura Kittrell and Amy Aniobi.

The premise of the limited series is to "recount the aftermath of the Christmas Eve riots within two small Arkansas towns in 1983" where riots took place over the super popular Cabbage Patch Dolls. "

The Dolls will be focused on digging into spicy topics such as class, privilege, race and the ideals surrounding what is expected of a woman to be a good mother.

HBO continues to expand its programming offerings under new corporate owner AT&T. The Dolls pulls up to HBO at a solid time, HBO programming for 2019 is looking juicy The Dolls will join series including Watchmen, Demimonde and Lovecraft Country and the final seasons of Game of Thrones as well as Veep in 2019.
