Shadow and Act reported that Chicago-bred rapper, Chance the Rapper, is working on a movie with his longtime friend and musical partner, Nico Segal (previously known as Donnie Trumpe, who will be responsible for overseeing the film's music. Writer for Empire and The Leftovers, Carlito Rodriguez, is appointed as the screenplay writer. One of the producers from Straight Outta Compton, Scott Bernstein, is also slated to work on the project. MGM has gotten the rights to the musical film.
The president of Motion Picture Group (MGM), Jonathan Glickman, stated:
“Chance and Nico are undoubtedly two of the most influential and innovative artists of their generation,” he continued to say, “We feel thrilled, privileged, and eager to be collaborating with them on such a unique project.”
So far the plot has been revealed to be about "Chicago teens coming together to work on turning their art into action within their community."
There isn't any word on the release date of the film.
