Anika Noni Rose Talks "Princess and the Frog" Skin-Lightening Controversy

She made history by voicing Disney's first black Disney princess in 2008's The Princess and the Frog. Now, Anika Noni Rose has stepped up to make sure that her iconic character gets the representation it deserves.

In the upcoming Disney film Wreck-It-Ralph 2, all of the Disney princesses make a cameo, including Princess Tiana. Many noted how different she looked from the original character - citing lighter skin and looser curls. Colorism has been a big topic of discussion as of late and many accused Disney of purposefully changing Tiana's features.

Anika recently posted a response and explained how she addressed the issue to Disney:

Since then, Disney has changed the appearance of Tiana to better reflect the original design. Way to go, Anika!
